After hooking it up, I immediately upgraded the firmware via CD-R without a hitch (just follow the more descriptive instructions on Panasonic's website). The setup menu was easy to navigate and setting all features was a breeze. The player automatically detects your TVs display (via HDMI) and can set the best possible resolution for you, or you can do it manually.

After the Samsung experience, the first test was to just play regular DVDs. The upconversion was really nice with each disc I have played so far, and NO freezing or macroblocking. Blu rays play great too. SD card and USB slots work just fine. The only nitpick I have is that I wish it would play MP3 files from the SD card slot, instead of hooking up an MP3 player. No big deal however. Sound is nice and clean to my receiver.

As far as the internet function, I can't comment on that since I don't use it and have no real need right now. I prefer to just buy the movies I like since I'm going to watch them more than once anyway. I also don't believe the internet is reliable enough to watch a movie all the way through without a dropped connection, especially if you use wi-fi like I do. If you're interested you can buy a bridge or wireless gaming adapter to convert this into a wireless player, but it's just too much expense in my opinion. I have my computer hooked up to my TV so You Tube looks just the same.

If you want a blu ray player that does what it's purpose really is (to play DVDs and blu rays!), then pick this up. Price is not too shabby either btw.

I am happy with this Sony BDP-S560 Blu-ray player. I have only had this player for a short time and have only watched a few DVDs but the Dark Night video is amazing, (it was filmed with I-Max cameras). It does seem like the recent newer movies in Blu-ray have a better HD picture quality than the older movies converted to HD Blu-ray. I didn't realize that if you are already receivig 1080i or 1080p over the air, Satellite, or via cable, it dosen't get any better than that. Blu-ray HD is 1080p. This player performs well and has plenty of great reviews by others. The built-in menus are very nicly layed out. I have not tried the on-line BD-Live feature yet but the Wi-Fi connection to my home wireless network came up and connected automatically and very easily. The DVD Upscaling of existing standard DVDs did not make them look any better in my opinion on the couple that I viewed. The picture quality appeared to hot or over-driven, this could possibly be improved by adjusting the DVD player settings and/or HDTV picture settings for an improvement in picture quality while playing standard DVDs. I cannot speak on the sound quality as I am not utilizing a full surround sound system with my Samsung 52" LCD, 850, Touch-of-color HDTV,(exelcent HDTV). I would recommend this Blu-ray DVD player to anyone, I am happy with it.

I'm not a tech freak but I do have two older Blu-Ray players Sony BDP-S1 & Sharp HP20U They both have great Blu-Ray pictures and excellent up scaling to 1080P.. But this new Onkyo BD507 to me is above excellent on the Blu-Ray movies and the up scaling to 1080P on regular DVD's..

Summary: I have this Blu-Ray player last July to watch movies and it has worked flawlessly for me from Day 1. I am not a viewer, the picture-in-use image (like the latter has not), nor do I play one of the games that are on some of the slices. I wanted a Blu-Ray player, which I full HD video and great sound. The audio sounds great on my surround sound system when I use it. Sometimes I'm just the TV speakers and the audio is excellent. If youinterested in a Blu-Ray player with outstanding video and excellent sound of this player is for you.

While the Sony BDP-S300 is an entry-level Blu-ray player, not the initial model does not necessarily meancheap. You will be a more capable high-definition video players. VD is lousy, and at best only decodes Dolby Digital Plus. If you already have a capable Upconverting DVD player and not the decoding of Dolby TrueHD and the myriad of high-definition DTS formats, this can make the Blu-ray player for you.

Summary: Sony finally has its second generation Blu-ray player at half the original price of the original! The BDP-S300looks like a bargain compared to their previous BDP-S1 model.

Watching Pirates Pirates I and II, I found the picture comes alive and without artifacts. My receiver is providing a 5.1 DD so I am not in a position to take advantage of uncompressed PCM codec to take. However, the Dolby Digital audio track was very impressive. All in all, this is a very good player in a very good price.
