Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black)

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Review

I purchased this player (after having a horrible experience with Samsung's BD-1600) based on the reviews I read here and various other sites. I'm pleased to report this player does its job, and does it right the first time. After hooking it up, I immediately upgraded the firmware via CD-R without a hitch (just follow the more descriptive instructions on Panasonic's website). The setup menu was easy to navigate and setting all features was a breeze. The player automatically detects your TVs display (via HDMI) and can set the best possible resolution for you, or you can do it manually.

After the Samsung experience, the first test was to just play regular DVDs. The upconversion was really nice with each disc I have played so far, and NO freezing or macroblocking. Blu rays play great too. SD card and USB slots work just fine. The only nitpick I have is that I wish it would play MP3 files from the SD card slot, instead of hooking up an MP3 player. No big deal however. Sound is nice and clean to my receiver.

As far as the internet function, I can't comment on that since I don't use it and have no real need right now. I prefer to just buy the movies I like since I'm going to watch them more than once anyway. I also don't believe the internet is reliable enough to watch a movie all the way through without a dropped connection, especially if you use wi-fi like I do. If you're interested you can buy a bridge or wireless gaming adapter to convert this into a wireless player, but it's just too much expense in my opinion. I have my computer hooked up to my TV so You Tube looks just the same.

If you want a blu ray player that does what it's purpose really is (to play DVDs and blu rays!), then pick this up. Price is not too shabby either btw.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Overview

Panasonic has always been at the cutting edge of Blu-ray technology, but its latest range of players looks to push the boundaries even further. The DMP-BD60 is the entry-level player in the company's latest three-strong line-up - which also includes the step-up DMP-BD80 and the DMP-BD70V Blu-ray/VHS combi (no, really) - and the big breakthrough on these models is the inclusion of Viera Cast functionality, also found on the company's Z1, V10 and G15 NeoPDP TVs.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black Review

This is my first Blu-Ray player. Therefore I don't have actual experience with other players to compare it with. My Blu-Ray player research was based on price and user reviews. The DMP-BD60 has recieved a LOT of reviews and they are overwhelmingly positive. Being priced within my budget along with the positive reviews made purchasing the DMP-BD60 an easy choice.

It operates much like any DVD player you've ever owned. Turn it on, open door, insert disc, and play movie. Beyond those basic functions your Blu-Ray player selection should be based on the extra features you personally require.

Based on reviews for various Blu-Ray players, Load Times are an important criteria. I have noticed that the Blu-Ray load time is somewhat longer than what I was used to for traditional DVD players but the duration is insignificant to me.

If this player fits your budget and connectivity requirements I recommend buying it. The picture quality of my new Samsung PN50B560 while using the Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-Ray player is stunning in my opinion.

I purchased the player for one hundred and thirty five dollars shipped. The price temporarily dipped to as low as one hundred dollars within a few days of my purchase but that's just the way things work out sometimes.
